Looking for Work

About Me

I’m Akk0, long-term enthusiast software developer, sysadmin, freelancer and this website’s webmaster. I’ve been at this computer thing for a while — my first dist-upgrade was Linux Mint 15 “Olivia” in 2013 — and I am currently actively looking for work on a freelance, contract or part-time basis, full remote or partially on-site in the Paris area1; I also accept full-time offers.

In order to rapidly build connections and get the ball rolling, I am currently offering my skills at a low, flat rate of €30 per hour. Additionally, I am offering 2 hours of no strings attached free labour to anyone reading this for free — please do keep reading!

Services Offered

My specialisation is in end-to-end, start to finish software development; taking software from idea to specification and through implementation to clean, finished, deployed and of course well-documented product. The independence and flexibility on which I pride myself can be put to many uses, however, and jobs I would love to do for example include:

  • Finding, triaging and fixing bugs in existing applications as well as executing refactors;
  • Deploying, configuring and integrating new tools, dependencies and APIs into existing systems;
  • Writing, testing and improving documentation and installation instructions — never underestimate the value of fresh eyes!;
  • Analyzing requirements, breaking tasks down, prioritizing, determining feasibility and putting ideas in the wider context of existing technology.

I especially love working with small businesses and individuals, as well as empowering fundamentally non-software businesses where a little bit of tech can often go a long way. Please don’t hesitate, but feel free to reach out immediately with requests of the following kind as well:

  • I am trying to install some program, but I cannot get it to work, can you help me?;
  • I am new to programming or system administration, can you mentor me? What software should I use? What is idiomatic style? – Mind that I was Lead Teaching Assistant in University!;
  • There’s a problem I want to solve, does any software exist to do this? How hard would such software be to implement? What should my budget be, or somebody is offering this for $X, is that reasonable?;
  • I have a question that interests me, can you help me collect data to answer it? Can you help me design a survey or scrape the web? Can you scientifically analyze and informatively visualize data for me?

Note: I am currently not looking for employment in the cryptocurrency sector.

Two Hours Free!

As an offer of goodwill, I am currently offering up to 2 hours of work entirely free, with no obligations, no strings attached; simply contact me using the contact information below. Time starts from the moment I start reading your email and includes communication time, so try to be detailed!

Contact Me

To inquire further, contact me at akk0 {at} webbieweb {dot} org and tell me:

  • How you found this website;
  • A little bit about yourself;
  • What it is that you wish to know, or how I can help you.

I am of course more than willing to jump on a call to discuss or just to prove I’m not a North Korean agent. I can also provide my name and VAT ID on request.

Qualifications and Accomplishments

Main page: portfolio; under construction.

My professional career, although fragmented, spans over a decade — the first professional development work I remember doing was Minecraft (Bukkit) server plugin development ca. 2014-2015. I’ve been using GNU/Linux as desktop OS for a few years longer than that and administered servers for about as long. Some of my skills include:

  • Full-stack web development including Vue and React;
  • Software development in Python, Javascript/Typescript, Clojure, Java, as well as basic C and Haskell skills (studied but not applied at scale);
  • GNU/Linux server administration (including e.g. the Tenma intranet);
  • Database scales, including Postgres, MongoDB, and arguably the greatest database of all, Sqlite;
  • Blockchain stuff like integrations and smart contract development, although I am not seeking employment in that field at this moment;
  • Data analysis and the Scientific Python stack, data visualization;
  • Machine learning;
  • Web scraping;
  • Many others.

I hold a BSc in Computing Science with a thesis in image vectorization using machine learning; my thesis was graded with honors and cited in further research.

I worked extensively as Teaching Assistant at university, also taking on double positions and/or repeatedly taking the role of Lead TA for several courses.

Larger projects I’ve done include:

  • Toshokan.moe, a website/startup I co-founded to host an extensive database of anime/manga/games, allowing users to keep lists of what they’ve consumed with a grading system, and notably featuring a machine learning recommender system utilizing the user’s list as well as ~/100 million/ rows of web-scraped data.
  • Eris, an experimental reddit-style social platform. Eris’ was completely decentralized with all state being held on the Solana blockchain and IPFS and all business logic being implemented as smart contracts self-funding through nanotransactions. Eris’ primary innovation was replacing the traditional upvote/downvote system with a bidding system that rewarded discovering valuable content before it got popular — an interesting social experiment that unfortunately stranded at the MVP stage.
  • Extensive contracting in the cryptocurrency sector.

This is in addition to numerous minor programs, contracts, data science/scientific jobs etcetera.
